February 26-March 7, 2010, Fridays & Saturdays at 8:00 pm, Sundays at 2:00 pm*

In the Grand Duke, Gilbert and Sullivan come full circle, back to the theme of their first collaboration: A troupe of actors takes political power. Ludwig, an actor, replaces the company manager, Ernest, and then he replaces the miserly Grand Duke Rudolph of Pfennig Halbfennig, after "killing" each of them by drawing the ace from a deck of cards in two "statutory" duels. By winning the statutory duels, Ludwig assumes all of Ernest's and Rudolph's rights and obligations. Soon he finds himself with far more wives, and prospective wives, than he knows what to do with. Never fear: once again, a lawyer solves the problem and all ends happily. - Sam Silvers

H.M.S. Pinafore

Directed by Guillaume C. Tourniaire

Music Direction by Joseph Sorge

June 11-20, 2010 Fridays & Saturdays at 8:00 pm, Sundays at 2:00 pm

The gentlemanly Captain of the Pinafore, who claims that he would never swear at his crew (What, Never?), does not know that his daughter has fallen in love with a common sailor serving on her father's ship. Meanwhile, the Captain
has arranged for her to marry the First Lord of the Admiralty, Sir Joseph Porter. Sir Joseph himself has risen from humble beginnings to gain his office by political acumen, despite having never gone to sea! And the Captain himself fancies a poor bumboat woman. Fear not: it all works out in the end. Hip, hip, hoorah! - Sam Silvers

Engaged

Directed by Felicity Ann Brown

Will be performed as part of the Capital Fringe Festival, July 8-25, 2010 (exact performance dates TBA)

Gilbert's precursor to Oscar Wilde's "The Importance of Being Ernest", an entanglement of engagements, inheritance stipulations, and Scottish/English class dichotomy.
